KAUAI, HI – Six people were injured, one critically, when a vehicle crashed on a highway in Waimea last week, according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
A Kauai police investigation indicated that the driver of an SUV, a 29-year-old Kekaha woman, crossed over the center line while traveling on Kaumualii Highway at about 10:30 a.m. The vehicle collided with a tree on the shoulder of the opposite lane.
The driver was found unconscious and was listed in critical condition after being flown to The Queen’s Medical Center. Five children in the SUV were also injured. Three were in serious condition at Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children while two others were treated at Wilcox Medical Center and released.
Kaumualii Highway was shut down in both directions for about 90 minutes while the wreck was being cleared and investigated.
