AIEA, HI – A multi-vehicle collision in the Aiea area on Saturday morning left five people injured, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported.
Police and emergency crews responded to the wreck on the H-1 Freeway westbound at about 8:50 a.m. According to the preliminary investigation, a 49-year-old woman suffered a medical emergency while driving near the Kaonohi Street overpass and sideswiped a vehicle driven by a 52-year-old man.
The impact caused the first car to be redirected and crash into a concrete barrier before hitting two other vehicles.
The 49-year-old woman was taken to an area hospital while her two passengers, two women ages 61 and 74, were hospitalized in serious condition.
Two women in one of the other vehicles that was struck, the 43-year-old driver and her 69-year-old passenger, were taken to the hospital in good condition.
Investigators do not believe speed, drugs or alcohol contributed to the car accident.
