HONOLULU, HI – Emergency crews were dispatched to a moped accident in Honolulu early Wednesday morning that left a rider critically injured, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports.
The crash happened along Kapiolani Boulevard near the Kaimuki neighborhood at about 1:08 a.m. Police said a 34-year-old woman was riding a moped eastbound and lost control of the vehicle, causing it to slide.
The rider, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the moped and was rushed to an area hospital by Emergency Medical Services paramedics. She arrived in serious condition, but her condition was later downgraded to critical.
The police department’s Traffic Division said that alcohol appears to have been a contributing factor, but speed did not play a role in the wreck.
