KAHULUI, HI – A pedestrian accident in Kahului on Monday night sent a woman to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, reports KITV.
Police and emergency crews responded to the scene on Dairy Road near Maui Marketplace Drive. An investigation indicated a 71-year-old woman was walking northwest across Dairy Road shortly after 8:30 p.m. when she was hit by a 2005 Toyota Solara heading southwest in the inner left lane. The victim was listed in critical condition after being rushed to the Maui Memorial Medical Center.
The Toyota driver, a 63-year-old Wailea woman, was not injured. Authorities said the pedestrian was outside of a marked crosswalk at the time the accident occurred.
Police are still trying to determine whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the collision.
