HONOLULU, HI – A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle in the Kalihi area of Honolulu on Monday night, according to a KITV report.

The Honolulu Police Department said the victim was a 61-year-old man who was walking north on the side of Sand Island Access Road at about 7:20 p.m.  When the pedestrian entered the traffic lane, he was struck by a northbound vehicle driven by a 23-year-old man.

The 61-year-old was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital.  The driver was not injured and stayed at the scene.

Investigators do not believe that speed, drugs or alcohol contributed to the incident, the 25th traffic fatality in Oahu this year compared to 10 at this time last year.
