HONOLULU, HI – A woman was injured in an accident involving a Transit Bus in Honolulu last week, authorities said.
A Honolulu Police Department news release said the pedestrian collision happened Jan. 11 at about 7 p.m. on Kuhio Avenue near Namahana Street, in the Waikiki area.
An investigation indicated that a 53-year-old Transit Bus operator had serviced a bus stop and began traveling westbound on Kuhio Avenue. At the same time, a 74-year-old female pedestrian attempted to run towards the bus from behind alongside the adjacent sidewalk.
She fell from the curb onto the roadway and was hit by the rear tire of the Transit Bus, according to police.
The woman was taken by Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition. Investigators do not believe that speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the incident.
