NORTH KONA, HI – The Hawaii Police Department said a motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a vehicle on the Queen Kaahumanu Highway in North Kona on Friday night.
According to a news release, the operator of a 2024 Kawasaki Ninja sport bike was traveling southbound at about 6:42 p.m.. The rider was overtaking multiple vehicles simultaneously when the bike collided head-on with a 2021 Honda CR-V at the 84 mile marker.
The motorcyclist, a 19-year-old man, was pronounced dead after being taken to Kona Community Hospital. His name was not immediately released. The Honda driver, a 65-year-old Kamuela woman, suffered minor injuries and was taken to the North Hawai’i Community Hospital.
The Area II Traffic Enforcement Unit is investigating the crash, which police said was the 28th traffic fatality this year compared to 15 at this time last year.
