KAPOLEI, HI – A two-vehicle collision in the Kapolei area on Wednesday night left one of the drivers dead and the other hospitalized, reports Hawaii News Now.
Honolulu police said a 61-year-old man was trying to make a turn from Farrington Highway onto Laaloa Street at about 10:20 p.m. when he went through a red light at the intersection. His car then collided with an oncoming car.
The first driver died after being transported to an area hospital. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. A 34-year-old woman who was driving the other vehicle was taken to the hospital and listed in serious condition.
Police do not believe speed was a contributing factor in the incident but have yet to determine whether drugs or alcohol played any role.
