HONOLULU, HI – The Honolulu Police Department said a driver has been arrested in connection with a deadly collision that occurred on Sunday afternoon.
In a news release, police said the accident involving a pedestrian occurred on Farrington Highway in the Makaha area at about 3:20 p.m.
An investigation found that the incident began when a 26-year-old man who had been involved in a previous motor vehicle collision fled the scene on foot, and tried to enter multiple occupied vehicles on Farrington Highway.
He attempted to reach into the driver’s side of a window of an eastbound vehicle driven by a 50-year-old woman. She accelerated, the man fell onto the roadway, and was run over the woman’s vehicle. She then fled the scene, police said.
The man was taken to an area hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead the following day.
The woman was arrested for Collisions Involving Death or Serious Bodily Injury and was later released pending further investigation.
Police said neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appeared to be contributing factors in the incident.
