WAIANAE, HI – Honolulu police said a teenage moped rider was injured in a crash in the Waianae area on Friday evening, KITV reports.
The rider, a 17-year-old girl, was traveling in the area of Farrington Highway and Leihoku Street when the accident occurred at about 6:47 p.m.
According to investigators, she was headed south on Leihoku Street and was trying to make a left turn at Farrington Highway when she struck a metal guardrail. The girl was ejected from the moped and landed in a grassy shoulder area.
She was transported by paramedics to an area hospital in critical condition. Police said the rider was not wearing a helmet when the crash occurred, and added that speed appears to have been a contributing factor.
