EWA BEACH, HI – Paramedics were called to the scene of an accident in Ewa Beach Thursday night that left a motorcyclist critically injured, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports.
Honolulu police said a 31-year-old man was hurt in the crash at Kuhina Street and Fort Weaver Road. According to investigators, the man was riding a motorcycle north on Fort Weaver Road at about 9:15 p.m. when he tried to speed past a southbound city bus that was turning left at the intersection, and the vehicles collided.
The motorcycle rider, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was rushed by EMS crews to an area hospital in critical condition. The bus driver, a 59-year-old man, was not injured and stayed at the scene.
Police said the motorcyclist’s speed appears to have been a contributing factor in the accident.
