HONOLULU, HI – The Hawaii Police Department said the victim of a traffic crash near Manuka State Park has now been identified.

In a news release, police said the person killed in the Nov. 12 incident was 33-year-old Annemarie Salvatore of Nā‘ālehu.

An investigation indicated that Salvatore was driving a 2011 Mazda CX-9 south on Māmalahoa Highway near Manuka State Park at 2:06 a.m. when she drove off the right shoulder and went down a 20-foot embankment. The vehicle rolled over and caught fire.  Salvatore was extricated from the car and pronounced dead after being taken to the Kona Community Hospital.

Investigators believe speed was a contributing factor in the accident.  Toxicology and autopsy results are still being awaited to determine if there was any impairment involved.
