HONOLULU, HI – Authorities in Honolulu announced charges against the man arrested in a fatal hit-and-run incident, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports.

The crash occurred Feb. 15 at the intersection of Kapiolani Boulevard and Kamakee Street, where two teenage girls were hit by a pickup truck that went through a red light shortly after 6:40 a.m.  One of the victims, a 16-year-old, was killed while the other was injured.  Both were in a marked crosswalk at the time.

The driver kept going on Kapiolani Boulevard without stopping to help.  The suspect, 46-year-old Mitchel Yoshiji Miyashiro, turned himself in to police the following day.

The Department of the Prosecuting Attorney of Honolulu announced that Miyashiro has now been charged with first-degree negligent homicide along with collisions involving death or serious bodily injury, collisions involving bodily injury, and driving without a license.  Prosecutors said he also had 164 prior traffic citations.  He is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.
