HONOLULU, HI – A crash in Honolulu on Monday morning claimed the life of a pedestrian, according to Hawaii News Now.

Police said a man was hit by a car at about 6:20 a.m. in the area of Atkinson Drive and Ala Moana Boulevard, near the Ala Moana Center.

The victim, a man said to be in his 50s, was pronounced dead by paramedics who responded to the scene.  He was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the incident, investigators said.

The Honolulu Police Department is investigating the crash, and said it does not appear that speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.

Police said it was this year’s 47th traffic fatality on Oahu, an increase from 38 at this time in 2022.
