WAIKELA, HI – A car wreck in the Waikele area last week claimed the life of an 18-year-old driver, according to Hawaii News Now.
Investigators determined that the man was driving northbound on Paiwa Street Monday at high speed when he lost control of his car near the H-1 Freeway overpass.
The vehicle struck a concrete curb and then collided with a tree in the center median. The driver died of his injuries after being taken to an area hospital in critical condition. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Honolulu police said it appears that speed and alcohol were both contributing factors in the incident.
