AIEA, HI – A driver died after his vehicle was involved in a collision along the H-1 Freeway on Monday, reports KHON.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services stated that the victim was working on his parked car on the shoulder lane of the freeway near the Aiea off-ramp at about 5:30 p.m. A bystander reported seeing the driver of another vehicle veer off the roadway and rear-end the man’s car, causing it to hit him.
The 46-year-old victim was pronounced dead after being transported to an area hospital. The driver of the other car, a 56-year-old woman, was treated at the scene and was in stable condition.
The Honolulu Police Department is investigating the incident and does not believe that speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
The H-1 Freeway eastbound was shut down for the accident investigation.
