HONOLULU, HI – Honolulu police said a pedestrian was struck and injured by a vehicle in the McCully area late Tuesday night.
A report by KITV states the pedestrian was walking near the intersection of Kapiolani Boulevard and Pumehana Street shortly before 10 p.m. when he was hit by an eastbound vehicle.
The 30-year-old victim was in critical condition after being taken to a hospital. He was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the incident, police said.
According to investigators, the driver involved left the scene without stopping to help but was followed by a witness who notified police.
The suspect was later apprehended in the Hawaii Kai area, and was charged with failing to render aid and operating a vehicle while under the influence.
Kapiolani Boulevard was shut down in the area for several hours for the crash investigation.
