HONOLULU, HI – Police in Honolulu are investigating a hit-and-run incident that left a moped rider critically injured early Saturday morning.

According to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, the collision took place in the area of Kapiolani Boulevard and Keeaumoku Street in the Ala Moana area at about 3:45 a.m.

Investigators determined that a 32-year-old woman was riding her moped west on Kapiolani Boulevard and was hit by a vehicle turning left onto Keeaumoku Street.

The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition.  Police said she was not wearing a helmet at the time.

The driver involved fled the scene heading north on Keeaumoku Street in what one witness described as a white pickup truck.  There was no word yet on whether speed, drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.
