PAHOA, HI – The Hawaii Police Department is searching for a driver who struck and injured a female pedestrian.
According to a police news release, the incident happened last Friday on Highway 130, near Malama Street in Pāhoa.
Puna patrol officers determined that a 36-year-old Pāhoa woman was walking in the northbound shoulder lane off Highway 130 just south of Malama Street at about 4 a.m. when she was struck by a Kalapana-bound motorcycle heading south.
The victim was taken to the Hilo Medical Center, where she was listed in stable condition. Police said the driver of the motorcycle fled the scene without stopping to help. Police asked residents in the area to look at their home surveillance videos for any motorcycles that may have been spotted during that time. The motorcycle being sought may have sustained front end damage, according to investigators.
Puna patrol officers initiated a negligent injury investigation and asked anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.
