KALIHI, HI – Honolulu police are investigating a hit-and-run incident in the Kalihi area on Friday that left a moped rider hospitalized.

KHON reports the crash occurred in the area of Nimitz Highway and Sand Island Access Road.

An investigation determined that a 42-year-old man was driving a moped east on Nimitz Highway when he was hit from behind by a vehicle.  The moped rider was taken to a local hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.  He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, police said.

The HPD’s Traffic Division Vehicular Homicide Section said the driver of the vehicle involved kept going east on Nimitz Highway and was believed to be fleeing the scene of the crash.
