WEST MAUI, HI – A collision on West Maui Tuesday morning led to the death of a bicycle rider, Hawaii News Now reports.
The victim, a 62-year-old man, was riding his bicycle across the intersection of Lahaina Bypass and Honoapiilani Highway when the accident occurred.
Police say the man was struck by a southbound 1999 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck and thrown to the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The rider, whose name was not immediately released, was not wearing a helmet at the time, according to police.
The driver of the pickup was a 28-year-old woman from Lahaina who stopped to help after the incident.
