HAWAII ISLAND, HI – Hawaii Gov. Josh Green came to the aid of a driver whose vehicle crashed on Hawaii Island Thursday morning, according to Big Island Now.
The governor was on the way to a dedication ceremony in WaikĹŤloa when he and his security detail spotted a rollover accident at the 1-mile marker on WaikĹŤloa Road near the WaikĹŤloa water tanks. Investigators said the driver had gone off the shoulder of the roadway at about 9:30 a.m. and the SUV overturned.
Green and his security detail joined with personnel from the Hawaii Police Department and the Hawaii Fire Department in coming to the aid of the driver, who was extricated from the vehicle.
Green, a former physician, helped the driver to a waiting ambulance. The victim was taken to North Hawai’i Community Hospital in Waimea where he was listed serious but stable condition.
The governor urged all drivers to “Please wear a seatbelt, it saves lives.”
