KAUAI, HI – Police have announced an arrest in connection with a hit-and-run incident in Kauai on Friday afternoon.
Hawaii News Now reports the suspected driver was identified as 45-year-old Kib Hoopii of Kapaa. Investigators said a woman was riding her bicycle west on the shoulder of Kaumualii Highway near Maluhia Road at about 1:30 p.m. when she was hit from behind by a Toyota Tundra.
The victim, a 65-year-old woman from Lithuania, was first taken to Wilcox Hospital and then flown to Oahu where she was listed in critical condition. She was wearing her helmet at the time of the accident.
Authorities said the driver fled the scene of the crash but was later located by witnesses. Hoopii faces multiple charges, including reckless driving and first-degree negligent injury.
