HONOLULU, HI – Honolulu police said an accident in Kailua on Tuesday afternoon claimed the life of a juvenile riding a motorcycle.

Hawaii News Now reports the incident took place on Kalanianaole Highway near Ulupii Street.  An initial investigation determined that the motorcyclist lost control of the bike while speeding over a speed bump at about 1:30 p.m., and was ejected onto a guardrail.  The victim was pronounced dead at an area hospital.  His age was not released.

Police said that speed appears to have been a contributing factor in the crash, but it is not yet clear whether drugs or alcohol were involved.  The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
