KA’U, HI – Hawai’i Island police said they are trying to track down the driver involved in a hit-and-run incident that left a pedestrian critically injured.

In a news release, police said the collision took place Saturday night near the intersection of Paradise Parkway and Luau Drive in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision in Ka‘ū.

Officers responding to the scene shortly before 10:30 p.m. determined a 26-year-old woman was struck by an unknown pickup truck or SUV while she was possibly lying in the middle of the roadway.  The woman, who is believed to be from the Ocean View area, was listed in critical condition after being taken to the Queens Medical Center on Oahu.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene without stopping to help.  Investigators have not determined which direction the driver was headed.
