WAIANAE, HI – A hit-and-run incident that injured a pedestrian in Waianae on Tuesday night is under investigation, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports.
The collision took place in the area of Farrington Highway and Waianae Valley Road at about 10:15 p.m. Police said a 57-year-old woman was crossing Farrington Highway near the intersection of Waianae Valley Road but was walking against the ‘red palm’ don’t-walk signal.
She was struck there by an unknown vehicle. The woman was taken to an area emergency room and was listed in critical condition.
According to police, the driver who hit her kept going east on Farrington Highway without stopping to help or provide information.
The preliminary investigation indicates that speed does not appear to have been a contributing factor in the crash, but it was not yet clear whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
