HONOLULU, HI – Police are investigating a hit-and-run collision that injured a pedestrian in the University area last week.
The crash happened Dec. 16 at about 10:54 a.m. on University Avenue near Coyne Street, according to the Honolulu Police Department.
The department’s Traffic Division learned a 43-year-old man was walking in a marked crosswalk with the walk signal illuminated. He was struck by a driver heading eastbound on Coyne Street who was making a left turn onto northbound University Avenue.
The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital and was listed in serious condition. The unidentified motorist kept going north on University Avenue after the collision without stopping to help or provide information.
Police said speed does not appear to be a contributing factor in the collision but it is unclear whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
Anyone with further information was asked to contact the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division.
