HONOLULU, HI – A man has died of injuries suffered in a hit-and-run collision in the Waikiki area early Saturday morning, the Honolulu Police Department said.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office notified police on Monday that the 44-year-old victim had passed away.
The crash occurred on Kalakaua Avenue near the intersection of Pau Street at about 1:30 a.m. It was reported to the police department’s Traffic Division that the pedestrian was walking on Kalakaua Avenue in a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 20-year-old man.
The driver kept going eastbound on Kalakaua Avenue without stopping to render aid or provide information. Police said the driver was later located and arrested for Collisions Involving Death or Serious Bodily Injury.
It remains unclear whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors. It was the 68th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 36 at the same time in 2024.
