KIHEI, HI – One person was killed and two others injured in a multi-vehicle crash in Kihei on Tuesday night, reports KITV.

Police responded to the fatal wreck on North Kihei Road in the vicinity of South Kihei Road shortly after 7:30 p.m.

An investigation revealed that the driver of a 1998 Honda Civic sedan was heading west when he crossed over the double solid yellow lines.  The Honda hit the back panel of an eastbound 2019 Nissan Frontier pickup truck, then continued in the eastbound lane and struck a 2012 Toyota Camry sedan head-on.

The Honda driver, a 58-year-old Wailuku man, was pronounced dead at the scene.  He was not wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred, authorities said.

The Nissan driver, a 54-year-old Kihei man, and the Toyota driver, a 53-year-old Kihei man, were listed in stable condition after being transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the accident and said that speed and alcohol are believed to have been contributing factors.
