NANAKULI, HI – Police are searching for the hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a motorcyclist in the Nanakuli area on Monday night.
According to the Honolulu Police Department, a 38-year-old man was riding an electric motorcycle westbound on Farrington Highway at about 10:05 p.m. when the bike was struck by an unidentified motorist who was making a left turn at the intersection of Helelua Street from the eastbound lanes of Farrington Highway. The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the bike. He was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.
The driver kept going north on Helelua Street without stopping to help or provide information, investigators said. The vehicle that fled the scene was later located parked and unoccupied.
Police have yet to determine whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the collision.
