KAILUA, HI – A moped rider was critically injured in a collision in the Kailua area last week, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene on Keolu Drive on Oct. 28 at about 12:35 a.m.  The police department’s Traffic Division learned that a 31-year-old man was riding a moped south on Keolu Drive when he lost control and collided with the concrete curb.

The rider, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the moped onto the roadway.  He was transported by Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.

Investigators have yet to determine whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the accident.
