KAIMUKI, HI – A man was killed in a motorcycle accident in the Kaimuki area late Thursday night, according to the Honolulu Police Department.
A preliminary investigation determined that the 23-year-old victim was riding east on the H1 Freeway at a high rate of speed at about 10:45 p.m. He lost control of the motorcycle and collided with a guardrail.
The rider, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected onto the roadway and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said speed appears to have been a contributing factor in the crash the 74th traffic fatality on Oahu this year compared to 41 at this time in 2024. Investigators have not yet determined whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
