KALIHI, HI – Honolulu police are investigating a fatal motorcycle accident that occurred recently in the Kalihi area.

According to the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division, the incident happened Aug. 30 on Nimitz Highway at about 2:35 a.m.  A 49-year-old man was riding a motorcycle westbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the bike and collided with a concrete curb.

The motorcyclist was ejected onto the roadway and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe speed was a contributing factor in the crash, but there was no immediate word on whether drugs or alcohol were involved.

It was the 56th traffic fatality on Oahu in 2025, more than twice the 27 that had occurred at the same time last year.
