HONOLULU, HI – A multi-vehicle collision in the Haleiwa area last week claimed the life of one of the drivers involved, according to the Honolulu Police Department.
The crash happened on the morning of Sept. 24 along Joseph P. Leong Highway at about 6:08 p.m. An investigation determined that a 58-year-old man was driving northbound when his vehicle crossed into the southbound lane near Emerson Road. He sideswiped a second vehicle, then continued forward and collided head-on with a third southbound vehicle before sideswiping a fourth.
The driver of the third vehicle, a 21-year-old man, was ejected onto the roadway and died at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle, a juvenile female, sustained minor injuries and refused treatment. No other injuries were reported.
The 58-year-old driver remained at the scene.
Police do not believe speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the fatal wreck, which remains under investigation.
