PEARL CITY, HI – Police said four people were injured, two critically, in a multi-vehicle crash in the Pearl City area on Sunday night.
According to the Honolulu Police Department, the collision occurred on the H-1 Freeway westbound near the Waimano exit at about 1o:41 p.m.
A preliminary investigation found that a 24-year-old man was driving west in lane 1 when he sideswiped a vehicle driven by a 28-year-old man that was stopped in lane 2 for an unrelated crash. The first vehicle then hit three pedestrians standing in the roadway before sideswiping a vehicle that was parked and unattended.
Two of the pedestrians, men ages 51 and 35, were transported to an area hospital in critical condition. The third pedestrian, a 24-year-old man, and the 28-year-old motorist were hospitalized in serious condition. The other driver stayed at the scene and refused treatment.
Police are continuing their investigation into the wreck, and are trying to determine whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
