PRINCEVILLE, HI – A two-vehicle collision at an intersection in Princeville sent both drivers to the hospital, KITV reported.
The crash took place Tuesday afternoon in the area of Kuhio Highway and Kapaka Street at about 3:15 p.m. Police said the driver of a 2004 Toyota SUV was headed south on Kuhio Highway when the driver of a northbound 2014 Chevrolet SUV tried a U-turn and crashed into the Chevrolet at Kapaka Street.
The Toyota then veered off the southbound shoulder of the roadway.
The driver of the Toyota, 34-year-old Kapa’a woman, and the driver of the Chevrolet, a 79-year-old man from Princeville, were transported to Wilcox Medical Center. The man was admitted for observation while the woman was treated and released.
Investigators do not believe speed was a contributing factor in the wreck but were awaiting toxicology results to learn whether impairment was involved.
Kuhio Highway was shut down in both directions for the accident investigation, which is ongoing.
