HILO, HI – Two pickup trucks were involved in a deadly head-on collision in Hilo on Thursday evening, according to KITV.
The vehicles, a 2017 Ford F-150 and a 2022 Chevy Silverado, crashed in the vicinity of Highway 19 and Hikina Place at about 6:23 p.m.
The Hawaii Police Department’s preliminary investigation found that the Ford driver was heading south on Highway 19 and crossed over the center line, colliding with the Chevy.
The Ford driver, whose identity was not released, was found unresponsive by first responders, and was pronounced dead. The Chevy driver, a 46-year-old Laupahoehoe woman, was transported to the Hilo Benioff Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Investigators believe speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the wreck.
