In the city of Honolulu, pedestrians are literally everywhere. Those who live and work in the city often choose walking over driving as their main source of transportation. Not only is walking more practical and economical, it is a great way to stay in shape while enjoying the wonderful climate in Hawaii. However, increased foot traffic along crowded city streets could mean more pedestrian accidents.

According to Honolulu police, a pedestrian was recently injured while attempting to cross a street. The accident occurred just before midnight at the intersection of Kanunu and Kaheka Streets. Reports say a woman was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk when she was suddenly struck by a vehicle.

Authorities say the driver of the vehicle, a 29 year-old Honolulu man, was turning onto Kanunu Street. Reportedly, the pedestrian suffered critical head injuries and was taken to a local hospital by EMS. Police are still investigating the accident but say that they do not suspect that drugs or alcohol were factors.
